Businesses asked to comment on the trade mark application process

The Patent Office is seeking the formal views of the business community on whether it should continue to examine trade mark applications for clashes with earlier registered marks. This follows an initial pre-consultation last year to gauge strength of feeling on the issue.

International patent classification reform

The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has recently completed its reform of the International Patent Classification (IPC) system. The reform was initiated in response to a need to adapt the existing IPC to make it a more efficient search tool and to adapt patent classification to the electronic age.
