Speeded up patent applications at the European Patent Office |

The European Patent Office (EPO) is running a 12 month pilot project in which European patent applications claiming priority from a UK, Austrian, Danish or German national patent application which has had its search report completed will be given higher priority and faster processing.
European patent applications submitted under the project, called the Utilisation Pilot Project (UPP), will receive Extended European Search Reports (EESR) within 3 - 6 months of filing.

Dominican Republic joins PCT |

The Dominican Republic became the 137th PCT Contracting State on February 28, 2007. The PCT will enter into force for that State on May 28, 2007.

Guatemala becomes the 133rd PCT Contracting State |

Guatemala (GT) became the 133rd PCT Contracting State on July 14, 2006. The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) will enter into force for Guatemala on October 14, 2006, allowing Guatemala to be covered by PCT applications filed from that date.

Following approval from the Privy Council, The Chartered Institute of Patent Agents (the professional body representing patent practitioners in the UK), has after 124 years, changed its name to The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA). The change brings UK into line with Europe and the rest of the world and means that all the professional staff of Chapman Molony are now referred to as patent attorneys (as well as European patent attorneys and trade mark attorneys). |

New PCT Contracting States |

On 16th May 2006 Malaysia (MY) became the 131st PCT Contracting State and on the 17th May 2006 El Slavador became the 132nd PCT Contracting State. The PCT will enter into force for both of these States on August 17, 2006.
