About IP

Intellectual property (IP) is a broad term used generally to cover inventions, designs, copyright works (such as literary, artistic and musical creations), and trade marks.

All intellectual property can be treated as an asset of an individual or company and has value in its own right. It may be possible to protect these assets through law, for example using patents and trademark or design registrations.

Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys are experts in this area of law and in particular in obtaining registered rights such as patents designs and trade marks, on behalf of clients. Patent agents, in particular, are required to have a science degree in addition to their specialist legal qualifications, to assist in their understanding of new technology.
